The exhibition Florence and the Radical Avant-gardes. Projects, actions, super-visions, extra-objects aims to deepen the research about radical experiences developed in Florence starting from the mid Sixties till the end of the Seventies. In the exhibition these historical facts are presented to the public, thanks to researches, scale models, visual analysis and video interviews, focusing on their current impact. The radical thoughts have arisen in the Faculty of Architecture, starting from the experimental thesis of some students, who soon afterwards become the members of the most interesting studio at that time (Archizoom, Superstudio, UFO, 9999, Zziggurat, Gianni Pettena, Remo Buti). The social protest of the Sixties, when the Radical movement grew, generated from universities, aimed to overturn the previous system. The Radicals, through public demonstrations, cynical visualisations of the city and liberating living environments, suggested alternative lifestyles. From Florence, historical city par excellence, the Radicals’ thoughts and projects spread throughout the world, thanks to architecture, design, art and literature magazines, gaining international prominence.
